Social Media Marketing, make sure you get out as much as you put in!

Social media is great for staying in touch with family, friends and colleagues.  For personal use, your social media activity can border on compulsive, but if you have the free time and that is how you spend it, more power to you!  Once you start using social media for marketing, the time you invest has to be offset by increased business and reduced spending in other avenues of marketing/advertising.  If you are use social media marketing and have seen no increase in business or no decrease in the amount of offline marketing you have been able to do, you are Not getting out as much as you are putting in.

In our studio we have been able to almost completely do away with our offline advertising since using social media to advertise and I do it in about 2 to 3 hours a week.  You can’t be like some photographer that talk about how successful they are and then explain they take their images home to spend their evenings editing down everything they have overshot in each days sessions.  That is not success, that is sacrificing your personal life for your professional life, something that many photographers are doing on social media.  To effectively use social media you must design your posts to make them interesting (interactive would be better!)  You must automate as much as you can to reduce the amount of time you spend on each site and you must reduce the number of sites you use to make it workable.
